Steam provides a generous refund system. You can refund any game you purchase via Steam, for any reason–if it isn’t working properly on your PC or you just don’t find it entertaining. This feature encourages you to try games you are not sure about. If you do not like a game, you can ask for a refund and get your money back. It is particularly useful now that so few games offer free demos.
There are two primary requirements for when you can find a refund: You must have purchased the game in the last 14 days, and you should have played the game for less than two hours. If you meet these requirements, Valve promises it is going to refund you for any reason. You can request a refund on a match even if you don’t meet these requirements–Valve will take a look at your request, but won’t guarantee a refund.If you refund a lot of games, Valve might think this “misuse” and stop offering refunds to you. So take care while purchasing multiple games.
How to Refund Steam Games
Recently Valve has updated its policy. According to the new policy, Refunds are designed to remove the risk from buying titles on Steam–not as a way to get free games. Valve doesn’t specify just what they believe “abuse,” but you should probably be fine as long as you are not regularly buying a large number of games and refunding most of them.
If you purchase a $60 game and it goes on sale for $30 a couple of days later, you can refund the sport and purchase it at the lower price. Your refund can be returned to the same payment method you purchased the game with, or to Steam Wallet credit you can spend on Steam. A new update to the Steam refund policy both simplifies and broadens the conditions under which you may get your money back after making a purchase.

The updated policy applies not just to games, but also DLC, in-game purchases, pre-purchases, packages, and even funds added to your Steam Wallet. You will be issued a full refund of your purchase within a week of approval. You will receive the refund in Steam Wallet funds or during the same payment method you used to make the purchase.
As we mentioned earlier, Valve will honor refund requests made within 14 days of purchase, provided the titles in question have been played for less than two hours. Refunds apply to games and downloadable content add-ons, applications, pre-orders, and packages.
Here’s How to Refund Steam Games:
Find the game in your library > find and click the link that says Support on the right side.
You will see this screen:
- I selected “I purchased this by accident.”
- You will see two options including One will help you fix any technical problems. The other is “I’d like to request a refund.”
- Clicking at will take you to this screen:
- Here you can either select to have the money go into your Steam Wallet or back to your source of payment.
- You can give a reason why you need your money back.
- Submit your request and its done.
